I'm kicking the tires on UDT and have a few issues I'm come across, maybe someone has posted this in another thread.  I also added some nice to haves in a future release.

·     Under Node Details the section/view for "Port Details device xyz" is show all ports, same for th node tree in the All UDT Node view.  I marked all the VLAN and a few other ports unmonitored in UDT but they are still show up in this view

·     Cosmetically that same view needs better column sizing.  Things do not line up orderly in this view.  As with NPM in general I wish SW would allow us to strip off the domain name of a device if we want to.  In our environment the domain name can be quite large

·     Under Device Tracker Port details the Port History section is not displaying the hostname of the device (just IP and MAC), yet in the Node details it is for the same port.

·     I find it redundant that you have to re-add devices to UDT that are already being monitored by NPM.  Like NCM, UDT should automatically pull devices (sync) from NPM so you don't have to do it twice.  All ports at this point should be monitored except thinks like Layer 2 VLANS, EO0/0 ports, port channel ports, etc.  These should be disabled by default.

·     When you hover over a port, a couple pieces or information show be in the pop-up window.  I would add current IP(s) and hostanme of the devices connected, and if it's a windows machine the last logged in person's account ID

·     I'm finding searching for mac address or IP of a device sometimes doesn't not show up in the look up results.  I can see both when looking at a port and neither active or historical searches show the port.  Device Tracker search results mostly does not work.  I can click on a device it knows its name and IP and in the search results it shows nothing

·     Hostnames are populated for windows devices, I'm assuming using dns lookups, but UDT will not display Cisco IP Phone DNS names.  We are in DNS so why isn't this being displayed?

·     Another feature request would be notification or something displayed on the port list view that the port has not had any devices connected to it after X period of time.  We patched all primary ports for every cube we have and out closet switches are almost out of space.  It would be nice to know this so we can trace this port to a wall jack and remove it to clean up the switch patching.  We have a switch that I know is patched with about 10 ports left physically open yet UDT says 40% of the ports are free.  I think a 30 day or something like that counter would be nice so we can clean up the ports.

I look forward to the AD integration that will allow us to see the last logged in (or current) person is to a particular port.    If any of these issues is user error on my part please let me know.  Thank you.

I installed UDT V2.0 RC and I reached a point where I entered the AD credentials that I thought might work, but they failed.

 Exactly what rights, privileges, or access does this account need to have in order for UDT to pull the user information?

I tried to use the embedded link on the page that should have taken me to the answer, but it took me of a generic page of marketing material.

 Can we get the link fixed or even better, can someone tell me what we need.? The download didn’t contain any documentation.

we have upgraded UDT to newest version, but now when I click on switch for example, and then go to port details, I can see MAC addresses of devices connected to switch, but no IP addresses.

To be exact, I can see IP addresses from devices (ports) in vlan 130, but don't see those that are in vlan 70, as you can see from the picture I am attaching.

I don't know if I was able to see those IP addresses before, customer who uses the system also does not remember, but we should still determine why we can see MAC and IP address for vlan 130, and for vlan 70 we just see MAC addresses.

Can you tell me what could be the problem with this? Is there something in Solarwinds NPM / NCM or UDT that needs to be configured, or is this something wrong with L3 devices configuration in the network?

How to solve this issue?

For those of you who use UDT:

I just added UDT to my environment, and I like some of the new things we're learning through it.  But I regularly get two errors from it:

I've looked up the errors and it appears UDT needs either more resources, more pollers, or more time to complete its polling.

I've doubled the polling interval allowed, and still the error appears.

Question 1:  What polling intervals do you use to successfully complete polling?

Question 2:  How many nodes do your individual UDT pollers handle?

Question 3:  What physical resources / components (I'm assuming the manual is referencing memory and CPU, perhaps from a VM point of view) do your UDT pollers have installed?

It's OK if you only answer one or two of these questions.  Please guide me with your UDT experience!

Is there a simple method to see which port a specific node is connected to? I cannot see this in the Node Details or in the Network Map.

Also, I don't understand why the device is showing so many different connections when there is only 1 physical connection. I understand that the direct connection is the physical connection but many of the other ones have no connectivity for this Server.

How do I get this page onto an email or pdf?  The funny thing is that is looks great in the node details page but has no options to export.

Support says the out of box tools won't help get this info.  I need a custom SQL query.  I shake my head as I write this.

I am not able to query for IP ARP from Cisco Nexus 7000. We have 2 of them.

Therefore, Search Device Tracker by IP Address no longer work.

When I go into UDT Job Status, I can see that UDT sees my switches as Layer 3 and Layer 2

We are using:

UDT version 2.0

Nexus 7010, version 6.1

2 VRF

The command to get the IP ARP is : "show ip arp vrf all"

Is there a way to tell what is connected to a switch using UDT? I remember there used to be port history, but I am not sure what changed because this information is no longer available. Is this a default setting for UDT? To identify and catalogue what is connected to a port on a switch? If so, what settings can I check to enable this feature again?

Since installing UDT 3.4.0, I have been having an issue with my Cisco 2960x series stacks.

On any of those stacks with more than 2 switches, I cannot get to the node page. I get one of two possible error messages:

The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>)

or

"Request Timed Out"

Removing the ports from UDT seems to make this problem go away.

Anyone else notice this or no?

A couple of months ago I upgraded NPM to 12.2, and all the other matching upgrades for NCM, NTA.  I also installed the recommended Hot Fixes.

Then I bought IPAM and UDT and installed them, along with one more APE.

They ran OK for a few weeks, but now I've got this message showing up in the Alerts part of NPM's home page:

New UDT polling jobs (388) are still running...

I searched for that message in Support & Thwack; haven't found the issue.  I was hoping it was something I could correct by changing UDT  polling timeouts, but although I've tried doubling them once, and doubling them a second time, there's been no improvement.

Might you have an idea about what's going on here?  I've had reoccurring issues where the C drives on APE have filled, and SW Support seems to think the issue is possibly:

• The C drives are sized too small (they're not, per SW recommendation)
• Anti-Virus is stopping reports from getting to the main NPM instance (AV is configured to exempt the recommended directories, but the logs say communications are failing between the APE's and NPM)
• I removed failing NetPath monitors in hopes that might fix it.  No luck.

If you have ideas on what's going on with my UDT, based on this alert, I'd love to hear from you.

I've been using UDT for a couple of months successfully, and I just discovered two sets of switches whose ports show "unmonitored" in UDT.

I'm uncertain how to change them to monitored, since I'd successfully added all my Cisco switches to UDT weeks ago.  Or is this somehow unnecessary?  No UDT information shows up in NPM's view of the Nodes.

NPM is already monitoring all of each switches' ports.

What's the trick to changing a nodes's ports to be monitored in UDT?

I've done this before, but it's quite a time since I've done it last time.

So, I'm noticing that I'm monitoring two switch ports with NPM (uplinks only) and UDT is monitoring those ports too, but not anything else on that switch. With other switches there is same situation, just some of the ports are monitored by NPM, but I still get every ports monitored with UDT.  So it obviously should be possible but I don't know how. If I open a list view of UDT nodes, I can only see those two ports, and status is "monitored" but nothing else. Other switches I see other ports too, not just the ones that are monitored with NPM.

This must be some really simple thing, that I just cannot find in settings... so can you help...?

Has anyone else tried to do this?   With the vast numbers of network devices interfaces that we have unused at a given time, we can't afford to monitor them because of element counts and unnecessary polling activity.   But our Network team will periodically begin using one of these interfaces for a critical function which will require us to monitor it.

We use NCM and UDT.  I notice that NCM tracks an inventory of all interfaces whether they are monitored or not.

In this example, I want to be alerted when this unmonitored interface's alias changes to something like "Uplink":

NCM lists all this interfaces and a comparison of NCM reports can show the alias change.

Any thoughts on how I may be able to trigger an alert to catch alias changes on our unmonitored interfaces?  Is there perhaps a better approach entirely?

We have a new Solarwinds implementation we have Orion Platform 2015.1.0, QoE 2.0, IPAM 4.0, NCM 7.3.2, NPM 11.5, NTA 4.1.0, UDT 3.2.0, IVIM 2.0.0. Our UDT suddenly broke, it was working fine for a week then suddenly logged in user stopped updating and UDT started killing our Domain controllers ( we were getting more then 40K logins to Domain from UDT account every 24hours). Seemed like something was stuck somewhere. We removed all DC's and related credentials and the DCs were happy again (600-800 logins only). We added all the DC's back again but UDT is now not showing any user data. The polling status shows a "Polling OK". I tried purging all data by dropping down the retention to 1 and then restored back again after a few days, still i am not getting any user info. Can anyone help so throw some pointers. Also the Polling Status is always stuck at "Checking Polling Status" see below images.

I'm running NPM/UDT/IPAM, all versions just before the latest release.

I recently did a discovery and brought all access ports into UDT and marked them as monitored but no additional info is being populated.  Only thing I see on the port is its status and port connection info.  I can also shut/no shut it from the port info page but I'm not seeing MAC/IP data.  Any thought on what I am missing?

The UDT GUI has a view or two that seems to allow a person to select all monitored nodes, or all monitored ports, and unmonitor them.

When I attempt that (57,000 ports) I get an error:

I suspect there's a SWQL query that can be executed to accomplish this task.  Might someone be kind enough to share it with me?

Is there a way to tell what is connected to a switch using UDT? I remember there used to be port history, but I am not sure what changed because this information is no longer available. Is this a default setting for UDT? To identify and catalogue what is connected to a port on a switch? If so, what settings can I check to enable this feature again?

I'm trying to customize a menu bar, but the view I created does not show up in the list of available views when I customize the menu bar.

Steps:

* I copied a default view "Default Tracker Summary" (in /orion/admin/ListViews.aspx)

* So I got the view "Copy of Default Tracker Summary"

* I edit a menu, and "Copy of Default Tracker Summary" does not show up in the left list of available views

Did I miss something ? What could explain I can't see the view ?
