Need a UDT report that shows MAC addresses that have moved

$

I know that I can use the OOB report named "UDT: All Endpoints" to see what MAC addresses and IPs are attached to what switch port at any point in time.

What I need is to have a report that will list any MAC address/IP address that has moved switch ports during whatever time period I designate.

The intention is to use this report to make sure that as we proceed with replacing old switches, we are able to plug endpoints back into the same port number as before and document it when something has moved.

Any ideas? I could do this by exporting the report into Excel and doing some sorting, but I would rather have a report.

Thanks for helping me.

UDT not working on Nexus FEX units

I've run into an issue with UDT polling Nexus FEX ports.  Basic background - the majority of my network over the last few years has migrated from Cat6500s to Nexus 7018s, with FEX 2248s.  I've had users come to me and tell me they aren't seeing MACs and IPs for devices on the Nexus switches.  I started doing some exploring and also opened a case with SW support (822548) and here's what I've found -

Using the UDT compatibility checker on a Nexus, I'm noticing the vmMembershipSummaryTable is not being populated by the switch for layer 2 access ports on the FEX.  It does populate if there is a line card port assigned to a vlan on the Nexus. For example, switch Nexus1 has a 10/100/1000 Ethernet Module in slot 1, and on port 48 its in vlan 10, the vmMembershipSummaryTable populates for vlan 10.  However, if vlan 10 ports are ONLY on the FEX unit, i.e. Ethernet101/1/48 is a switch port assigned to vlan10, it will not populate the vmMembershipSummaryTable.  The problem with my network of Nexus is I don't have many line cards with layer 2 access ports, most are 10 gig modules with trunks connected to multiple FEX units which have all the layer 2 ports.

I've opened a case with Cisco on this after my case with solar winds, and Cisco says basically nothing is broken.  The port ifindex for the FEX ports is greater than 2048, which prevents the vmMembershipSummaryTable from populating.  Because this table isn't populating, SW doesn't know which vlans to go in and grab the dot1dBasePortTable@vlanXXX - thus applying the mac address to the switch port.

Just curious if anyone else has run into this issue and if so if there was any work around to get Nexus FEX units reporting mac/ip in UDT.

UDT Support for Windows Server 2016 ETA

I plan on installing Orion NPM, and a number of other modules (SAM, NTA, NCM, VNQM, & UDT) . However, because of UDT, i cannot install on Windows Server 2016, and have to use Server 2012 R2.  I'd really like to use Server 2016 if possible.  I know Solarwinds doesn't hand out any dates, but i don't see new OS support listed on any roadmap.  Can anyone give me any info at all?

Thanks!

No user data in UDT 2016 domain

Newbie.

Followed all the documentation, but we don't see any user information in UDT. Domain controllers were found and authenticated (passed the little test with flying green colors). Is there something different about a 2016 domain than a 2012 domain?

WMI, audit policies, etc. all configured per instructions.

UDT Compatibility Checker fails with "REL job for node 'N:67|Eventing6' returned an error: The RPC server is unavailable" when I tried to run the tool using the event ID from the event log on the domain controller (this was a suggestion in one of the docs to verify proper connectivity).

Thoughts?

Custom UDT Summary and Details View Report

Hi guys,

I'm trying to build two new reports for UDT, but I'm getting stuck with the more advanced SQL queries that lookup date.

I hope one of you can help

1. A Summary View report, much like the Top 10 Nodes by Percent Ports Used resource, that groups the Nodes by <custom_Property> AND only lists historical "Archive" information for ports that have never been seen.

What I wish to end up having is an overview of % Ports Used based on Active Ports Vs Never Used ports. Alternatively, Active Ports Vs Ports Last Seen (haven't been used in at least 90 days).

Top 10 Nodes by # of Never Seen Ports

<custom_property>NodePorts CountPorts UsedPorts Never Used% Ports Used (ASC)
Datacenter ARTR0171614
FW01112918
SW0193633
SW0227151255
Datacenter BSW0157342359
SW02251510

60

2. The same type of query for use in a Node Details view, where the query is ${NodeID} dependant.

What I have so far is losely based off njoylif's work found here: Re: UDT report for used/unused ports per device

I can't figure out how to call the never seen/last seen -90 bit

I'm using UDT v3.2.4

Is this doable?

LLDP-Med report

Hi!

Read somewhere that NPM & UDT stores LLDP information internally in its SQL DB,

1) is there a way to extract this information to show all the switches that has a LG-Ericsson device (VoIP - LLDP MED) attached to it?

2) Can the above information automatically be fed to NCM to automatically tag the VOICE VLAN on those ports? This to speedup rollout of new PBX.

I understand that item two is advanced, but perhaps the first item should be doable?

What's the difference between UDT and Infoblox's end user device tracking capabilities?

$

I have Infoblox for DHCP/IPAM/DNS services, and I see there's a new module available that can discover and auto populate information showing the switch/blade/port for every device by MAC address and IP address.  That's exactly what my organization needs for expanding our CMDB.

But I see Solarwinds UDT seems to also be able to provide switch/blade/port for every MAC/IP address.

If you've used either solution, I'd LOVE to get your input about pro's & con's you've experienced.  If you can include sanitized screen shots showing your views, what you like with the product, what you don't like, that would be SO helpful.

I'm at the point of deciding between the new Infoblox module and adding on UDT, and the ability to export the switch/blade/port/MAC/IP address information into a CMDB will make the difference for which way to go.

Lay it on me, UDT and Infoblox users!  What do you love or hate or wish-for about either option?

SNMP v2 Authentication Failure

I have installed UDT eval - looks VERY interesting so far; experiencing a couple of router issues and such that other folks are commenting on and have an open case.

One odd thing I have noticed that started virtually the minute UDT became active is SNMP authentication failures - we capture these in NPM via traps.  What is interesting is that they appear to be coming from my orion server and attempt to communicate via SNMP to any device in the network; whether or not they are in UDT (they are in NPM).  Even more interesting is the extra IP address contained in the trap - see bold below:

snmpTrapEnterprise = RAPID-CITY-MIB:snmpTraps
experimental.1057.1 = [*local switch address*]
cExtSnmpTargetAuthInetAddr = 49.48.46.49
cExtSnmpTargetAuthInetType = 1
authAddr = [*local Orion server address*]
snmpTrapOID = SNMPv2-MIB:authenticationFailure
sysUpTime = 3618379348

Has anyone else seen this or know what it could be coming from?  Again, this started immediately after UDT was installed.

Thanks,

Dave

Unable to query IP-ARP from Cisco Nexus 7000

Hello,

I am not able to query for IP ARP from Cisco Nexus 7000. We have 2 of them.

Therefore, Search Device Tracker by IP Address no longer work.

When I go into UDT Job Status, I can see that UDT sees my switches as Layer 3 and Layer 2

We are using:

UDT version 2.0

Nexus 7010, version 6.1

2 VRF

The command to get the IP ARP is : "show ip arp vrf all"

Please advise.

NPM and UDT integration

As I understand it UDT is a separate stand-alone product, not an NPM module, much like NCM.  To this end, my assumption is that it utilizes a separate database to house all the nodes and meta data associated with those nodes.  If that is a correct assumption, does anyone know if you would be able to setup SQL jobs to populate the UDT database with nodes to monitor from NPM, again much like you can do with NCM?  The reason I ask is that I'd like to be able to just add devices into one system (NPM) like I do today, and have those devices propagated to the other Solarwinds products I own (NCM and UDT) in the background with me having to add them manually to those individual products as well.  I've read the documentation on the WebUI, and I see that I can run the Web-only installer on my NPM server to get the UDT web components on there so it presents as a unified console, again much like NCM.  Any information that anyone can provide on this point would be greatly appreciated.  Really looking forward to getting UDT up in production once the product licensing is GA later this month.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Unable to see endpoint connections.

I poll my APs using SNMPv1 using public string. I am unable to see any endpoint connections. They are Unifi APs (Ubiquity) and have a controller software installed on a separate server. Do I need to poll with a read/write string? Do I need to point UDT to the Unifi controller address? Anyone? Bueller. Bueller. Bueller.

Missing endpoint information from an active port - UDT v3.2

Missing endpoint information from an active port - UDT v3.2

NPM 11.0.1

UDT 3.2

We are having two issues with UDT -

1. Missing endpoint information from an active port. This is not on every port, probably very few but still not accurate.

2. Endpoint changing IP address via DHCP - seeing a 2-3 hr lag where both IP's are listed (duplicate device) for the port.

Per Solarwinds support we have implemented several things but to no avail.

UDT polling set to 20 minutes instead of the default 30 minutes

Installed NPM 11.0.1 HotFix4

Moved UDT devices from an additional poller over to our primary poller (very low polling/reduced traffic)

Question - We have several printers attached to a switch. The ports that printers are attached to are listed as active (as it should) and it does show the active connection with the MAC and IP address but only in Port history. Could these devices be going into a "sleep" mode and that is why UDT is not showing it as a constant "current" connection?

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on what we can do ?

Thank you

-Gino

How to see devices connected to a switch?

$

Hello SolarWinds community,

Is there a way to tell what is connected to a switch using UDT? I remember there used to be port history, but I am not sure what changed because this information is no longer available. Is this a default setting for UDT? To identify and catalogue what is connected to a port on a switch? If so, what settings can I check to enable this feature again?

Removing ports from UDT

Hello,

I had a quick question about removing ports from UDT.  I went into the settings -> UDT Port Management section and wanted to un-monitor ports for UDT only.  At this section if I find the ports I no longer want to monitor and select the un-monitor button, is this only going to affect UDT?  Or will it also stop monitoring these ports for NPM?  We added devices in mass, and now I want to remove a few core devices from UDT that don't need the extra SNMP polling to occur.

In ad hoc reporting for device tracker the data in the 'last seen' column is valid in the conversion to PDF format but invalid when exported to Excel. We get xxxx.gif or yy.gif. in this column, is there a fix for this?

Layer 3 Polling ONLY!

$

Hi All,

I recently purchased UDT, and have begun the process of setting things up. I am adding access switches manually so that I can unmonitor unused ports and uplinks. In my main campus, layer 3 is not at the access layer. I would like to poll the layer 3 devices without having to add their ports and unmonitor them. Is there a way to poll a device for layer 3 only without having to first monitor it, then remove layer 2 polling and unmonitor all ports?
